Question 4(3pts)
State the definitions of elastic, inelastic, and completely inelastic collisions. Give an example of a situation where the final kinetic energy is greater than the initial value.
Elastic collision- In this collision no deformation resides on the colliding bodies after collision. During collision no any loss of total kinetic energy occurs.
For elastic collision co-efficient of restitution (e) is ONE.
So kinetic energy of the system remains constant before and after collision.
INELASTIC Collision- In this collision some deformation resides permanently in the colliding bodies after the collision. Some loss of kinetic energy occurs during collision.co-efficient of restitution (e) is 0<e<1.
Kinetic energy cannot be conserved for system.
Perfectly inelastic collision-In this collision maximum deformation resides permanently after the collision.
Maximum loss of kinetic energy occurs during the collision.
Value of e=0. Colliding bodies stick together in ghis collision if they collides head on.
###The collision in which final kinetic energy increases than before is called SUPERELASTIC collision.
For example, Explosion of bomb, magic ball etc...in this collision internal energy of the system is converted in to kinetic energy.
