To review the increase in central line infections in their unit the committee of nurses should follow the following process:
1. List the patients who had central lines put in with other details.
2. List the number of patients who had central line infections with other details.
3. Collect and note the details of the staff members who did the central line placement. They should be asked about the method that they used to place the central line and whether the procedure was done in aseptic conditions or not.
4. Record any variations in following the aseptic protocol with the patient and staff details.
5. Note any other possibility of this nosocomial infection due to contamination of the host environment.
6. Based on the above-recorded facts strict action should be taken if this was a case of staff negligence.
7. Proper training should be given to the staff on the aseptic protocol and central line placement.
8. Proper sanitization of the environment should also be done to prevent any chances of future infection.
9. Strict warning should be given to the concerned professionals for any negligence on their part.
10. Discussions should be conducted at the supervisory/management level to rectify any possible loopholes.
