The marketing director of a small private university is considering launching an advertising campaign-the first in the university's history-to boost student enrollment. She favored a mix of television, radio, and print advertising; recently, however, she read an article on the growing importance of inbound marketing. She has turned to you for advice on the relative merits of outbound marketing versus inbound marketing. What do you tell her? Can you provide any recommendations about what she should do for her campaign?
Outbound Marketing is the traditional advertising methods.It includes television and radio advertising,print advertising,telemarketing ,direct mail etc.On the other hand,Inbound Marketing is a technique for drawing customers to products and services via social media marketing,search engine optimization and branding,content marketing etc.
Outbound Marketing method is not that effective as they were once. In this case television,radio and print advertising are being favoured.But with development of technology television advertisements can be skipped by recording of favourite shows.Similarly digital music makes easy for people to avoid radio advertising and people see news mostly in internet so no one sees the print advertisements of the news paper.
The way people communicate is changing rapidly.Inbound marketing leverages these changes to more effectively promote your business.This is the age of Inbound Marketing driven by the internet and social media.It relies on the development of modern communication technology like internet,mobile phones and social media.Inbound marketing is indirect compared to Outbound marketing.Inbound marketing uses pull tactics where Outbound marketing uses push tactics.Outbound marketing interrupts television and radio shows disturbing people which is not the case in Inbound marketing.The basic idea is that advertiser's use mass media tools to push their message and products out to the public with the hope of connecting enough people who are in your target audience to make them hear you advertisement and respond.Inbound marketing is again better of the two as it has a two-way communication rather than one-way communication in Outbound marketing.Inbound Marketing is more effective to reach your audience.It is less expensive than Outbound Marketing .Outbound Marketing is expensive because they are usually broadcast to a mass audience even if they aren't in your target demographics.
As Outbound Marketing channels are just not getting the job done any more and technology has advanced and marketing strategy tactics have also evolved to keep up with it, hence ,Inbound Marketing is recommended than Outbound Marketing strategies.
