A lading bill is a legal document given to a shipper by a carrier describing the form, number and destination of the goods being transported.

A lading bill is a title paper, a receipt for shipped goods and a contract between a carrier and a shipper.

The distinction between order lading bill and straight lading bill follows: the straight lading bill is often referred to as the non-negotiable lading bill. And the bill of order lading is regarded as a negotiable bill of lading.

In straight lading bill, the mark for the product is conversed directly with the party whose name is stated in the letter of credit. On the other hand, the mark to the product is conversed in the letter credit to the shipper's order in order of lading payment.

The mark on the products can not be passed to any other party by endorsement in the straight lading bill. On the other hand the mark to the products can be easily transferred by endorsement to any other party in order to lading bill.
