You pour 100 g of cold milk (T_m=5 degrees C) into your 500 g hot coffee (T_c=80 degrees C) and mix them together. Assume this is an isolated system in which no heat is lost to the cup or surrounding air. Specific heat of milk: c_m= 3.97 J/(g°C), specific heat of coffee: c_c= 4.184 J/(gºC)
a. What is the final temperature of your drink after the milk and coffee are in thermal equilibrium?
b. What happened to the temperature of the milk? What happened to the temp of the coffee?
please answer both parts of the question!
Given problem can be solved using law of conservation of Energy
Heat lost by Hot body=Heat gain by cold body
Heat lost by Coffee=Heat gain by milk
Here Final temperature Always between the Temperatures of milk and Coffee. That is between 50 C and 800 C.
The Final Temperature = 680 C
