Communication is the prerequisite for all the organizations in the contemporary world. Communication involves verbal, non-verbal and written skills. Effective communication helps in developing good relationships with the stakeholders, customers, other managers, team members etc. Proper communication with the team members help in enhancing the employee morale. Effective communication plays a crucial role in product development, employee management and active customer associations. Communication is the only source to exchange ideas or messages etc. A proper communication helps managers to assign the tasks effectively to their associates. It helps in planning, organizing and motivating. Lack of communication may sometimes lead to closure of organizations.

Communication is mostly categorized into the following types:

Internal communication: This type of communication takes place among the team members or within the organization. It can be audio, video, oral or written. This type of communication help in educating the employees within the organization, assigning duties, motivate, influence etc.

External communication: This type of communication takes place with people outside the organization. It can be in the form of letters, press releases, media, public forums etc. This type of communication helps in addressing the customers, public, government, competitors etc.

Upward communication: Large organizations have more hierarchy levels. The movement of information must reach all the levels of the business for an effective functioning or the organization. The flow of information from low-level employees to the high-level employees is called upward communication.

Downward communication: In the same way, the flow of information from high-level employees to the low-level employees is called downward communication.

Formal communication: Conferences, stakeholder meetings, review meetings, audits etc. come under formal communication.

Informal communication: This type of communication is more prevalent in smaller organizations. The communication in an unstructured format that works well for small group is called informal communication.

Importance of communication:

· Helps in efficient teamwork.

· Helps in achieving goals.

· Build strong relationships with peers and with customers.
