In this thread, we had dynamic Discussions on key factors of adapting one's career plan to a changing world experience. We covered many reasons why some are resistant to change, and how others may adapt their career plan accordingly.
How can a changing world experience dictate your career path?
In the organisational and economic world, change is inevitable. With the rate the technology is changing, process are deemed to change. Hence you can't suppress the fact that a changing world experience dictate your career path.I'll take a real world example to explain this.
Let's assume you were born in the 90's. You had a cheerful childhood with cartoons and shows airing everyday on your favourite network. Having a computer was like having the ultimate thing possible at the time, and you aimed at becoming an analyst just like your father. So you worked your way through school, and the at college getting and undergrad at marketing. You joined a good marketing firm with a believe to make some real impact on client's business by getting him the perfect solution for the problem. But as you were making those presentations for the next days deliverable, you realised that while you are doing this repetitive job of designing boxes, you were loosing valuable time to actually prep for the meeting. The next day you came in, you saw your manager bringing in a new kid to your team who is well versed with all the technology related things which can replace your manual work with just a button. You were extremly happy and joyous to know that all the mundane and repetitve stuff you do, can now be done by the computer with just a click of a button and you can actually spend your valuable time by developing insights for the client.
Now the next day, the manager asks you in your room. He explains that how the team was low on budget and need to cut expenses down. He suggested that there was a way to do that, they will ask the new kid who was working as an intern to leave after a couple of months with a stipend and a recommendation letter, and that you, who actually knew the client inside out could learn some of the new technological things that the kid was doing. Now here comes the dilemma, do you actually want to spend your time and effort to learn some new technology that haven't ever heard of , or be resistant to change.
So that's how a changing world dictate your career path.
