What Are the Biases in response (Response style) to questionnaire surveys
The biases in response to questionnaire surveys are known as response bias. The different types of response bias are as follows:
· Prestige Bias: The respondents are not fair in their responses. They try to respond to a questionnaire in a way that it facilitates their overall prestige or image.
· Social Response Bias: The respondent tries to project himself or herself in good light. Hence a good behaviour or attribute gets projected and a bad behaviour or attribute gets negated in the response to a questionnaire.
· Hostility Bias: If the respondent gets irked by a question in the survey, he may turn hostile and may not respond to the survey fairly.
· Stereotype Bias: Some personal questions are bound to affect the respondents in certain way. They may try to stereotype their responses in order to project their affinity or belongingness to a particular sect.
· Non-Response Bias: This is basically the participation bias. The survey seems to be skewed and there is over representation of a group and under representation of another.
