According to Ballenger, what are the three things that all essays must do?
An essay is a short composition that presents our view on a particular subject or topic. An essay usually contains three main parts and they are an introduction, a body and a conclusion.
An introduction is the first paragraph. It usually begins with a topic sentence which introduces our subject or topic in an interesting manner. We can even use a question or an exclamation as topic sentence. Next we have to write the three points that we use to support our topic sentence. It introduces the main idea of our essay. A good opening paragraph can capture the interest of readers and tells why our topic is important.
A body contains atleast three paragraphs each beginning with one of our supporting points. These supports the idea that we laid out in our topic sentence. We should use specific examples or facts to support our ideas. Thus we have to explain our reason or idea from the topic sentence. We can also use quotes that support our arguments. We can also provide evidences inorder to increase the strength of our arguments. When providing evidences, we should also explain what it means.
Conclusion means rewriting our topic sentence in a new and interesting manner. Then we have to summarize our thoughts in a closing statement.
Thanks!..
