Q) Determine using the NRC formula, the BOD5 of the effluent from a single-stage, low-rate trickling filter that has a filter volume of 1,500 m3 , a hydraulic flow rate of 0.26 m3/s, and a recirculation ratio of 1.5. The influent BOD5 is 360 mg/L. Would the single stage be sufficient to achieve the WHO BOD efficacy? If not how can you improve the system efficiency and provide the necessary calculations?
