If you were standardizing a solution of NaOH like you did in a previous lab, which method of titration monitoring is better, do you think—using a pH probe to make a titration curve, or monitoring the end of the titration via an indicator color change? Why?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Probing pH meter and to make a titration curve is better than using color change indicator. Because small change in hydrogen ion concentration can be accurately (depending upon sensitivity of pH meter) measured by pH meter, whereas slight color change cannot be always deted by all persons eyes equally, sometimes external source of light in the chemical laboratory will interfere with color of indicator to be shown as false negative. Some indicators works with specified pH region and shows color change only in that particular region, out of the region remains questionable. Today we are using highly accurate and most advanced precision balanced pH meter equipped with magnetic bar stirrer to make the titration solution evenly distributed (homogeneous), this helps us to make titration curve even better than manually swirling the titration solution during the color change indicator experiment.

In a lab experiment; the objective is to titrate NaOH solution into known KHP solution to determine NaOH solution concentration. Using the same NaOH solution we titrate an UKNOWN sample of KHP. I am having trouble calculating the % purity of my sample. mol of NaOH USED TO TITRATE IN ALIQUOT: 0.001289mol (trial 1), 0.001289mol (trial 2), 0.001291mol (trial 3) mol of KHP in aliquot: I calculated as 1:1 ratio THEREFORE  0.001289mol (trial 1), 0.001289mol (trial 2), 0.001291mol (trial 3) -...

assumptions for titration of an unknown weak acid and strong base (NaOH) We did a lab in chem and first standardized NaOH using KHP to find the actual concentration of NaOH. We then used that standardized stock to titrate our unknown acid for three trials. we calculated the molecular weight by assuming a 1:1 ratio between the acid and base. then we did a single trial of a titration of our unkown with the NaOH and used a pH probe...

You prepare a diluted NaOH solution by adding 15 mL of 3 M NaOH to 435 mL of distilled water and stir for several minutes. In a clean dry beaker you obtain about 75 mL of standardized HCl and record the molarity. You take two burets, rinse one with the standardized HCl and one with the diluted NaOH solution. Fill one buret with the HCl and the other with NaOH. Prior to the titration the standard HCl soltion (~15.00 mL)...
