Explain about ‘high-altitude floating’ wind turbines.

Explain about ‘high-altitude floating’ wind turbines.

Solutions

Expert Solution

For absorbing power from wind having high energy at higher altitude, the floating wind turbines are developed. Since these wind turbines uses renewable energy resource so they don't threat to our environment. It reduces our dependency on fossil fuels such as petrol, diesel etc.

For example- Buoyant Air Turbine(BAT) is floating high altitude wind turbine, which is developed by Altaeros Energies. It floats above a height of 300-600 meter by using inflatable Helium gas shells. It serves for remote areas of Alaska.

As these turbines having a high altitude so they are free from weather obstruction or barrier. Also no migrating birds were killed by these high altitude wind turbines. They have sensors to detect early weather conditions so that they can change position to sustain for longer period. They are less expansive but highly efficient as they have twice output than ordinary Turbine. They are highly flexible to resist the wind resistance. They generally don't supply power to large power grids, yet they supply power to distant villages, military bases and disaster locations.

Assume a wind farm developer spent millions of dollars constructing wind turbines on land outside Mountain . Adjacent residents filed a lawsuit complaining that they never consented to the loud noise and visual obstructions of the turbine. The Mayor of Mountain proposes that the city place a tax on the turbines with the hope that will generate some much-needed revenue for the city and reduce the quantity of turbines. 2. Wind turbines generate energy, but they also make noise that disturbs and even affects the health of people living within a mile of a turbine. Currently the amount of noise generated is determined by how many kilowatts the windmill generates. Two policies have been proposed to address this situation: (i) A pigouvian tax on each kilowatt generated by a windmill, to be paid by windmill owners. (ii) A tradable permit program, in which windmill owners are given permits allowing...
