One underlying theme of gene expression is that RNA often has a functional role beyond just transmitting sequence information from DNA to proteins. Describe one example (other than an mRNA) where RNA is doing something important for gene expression. Your answer should indicate the functional significance of the RNA and provide mechanistic insight.

Expert Solution

Correct answer with explanation is given below:

Gene expression: the process by which information from a gene is used in the production of a functional gene product (protein), but non-protein coding genes such as rRNA genes or tRNA genes,a product called functional RNA.The production of an RNA by transcription of a gene is one step of gene expression.

RNA has a functional role in gene expression to transmit sequence information from DNA to proteins.

One example where RNA is doing something important for gene expression : Transfer RNA (t RNA) brings or transports amino acids to the ribosome(creates polypeptide chain) during translation, and another example: where ribosomal RNA (rRNA) links amio acids together to form coded proteins.

The role of tRNA in gene expression:

  • tRNA carries the code for a sequence of polypeptide of amino acid.
  • tRNA transfer mRNA to the ribosome and carries amino acids to ribosome.
  • tRNA read the massage of nucleic acids or nucleotides, and translate it into amino acids to make a protein.
  • tRNA decode a specific codon of mRNA, using its anticodon, according to transfer a specific amino acid to the end of a chain in ribosome for creat a protein.

The necessary components for gene expression are often described as either cis-acting elements (“acting from the same molecule”) or trans-acting factors (“acting from a different molecule”). Cis-acting elements are typically sequences that are required for expression. Trans-acting factors are typically proteins that recognize and bind cis-acting sequences to control or facilitate gene expression. For each of the cis-acting elements below, Promotor and Start Codon, list a trans-acting factor involved in its recognition and describe the factor’s normal function
