In the female estrogen is important for all of the following reasons except- it is responsible for cleavage and blastocyst formation in the zygote.
Estrogen is hormone responsible for secondary seual characteristics, ovarian and uterine cycles, it is also used in several types of contraceptive devices but it does not have any role in cleavage and blastocyst formation in zygote.
After fertilization next step is female pronuclei completes its meiosis and then zygote develops. Zygote undergo mitosis and clavage of zygote starts, this process of mitosis goes on, when cell reaches 16 cell stage called morula, gap junction genes start expressing and cells get firmly associated afterwards morula, cellular differentiation takes place and it results into formation of blastocyst containing blastocoel cavity.
This whole process is occurs inside embryo and it has sufficient amount of nutrients to perform all these things. So there is no role of estrogen and its signalling.
