In: Chemistry
Oxidative phosphorylation occurs in mitochondria and Photophosphorylation occurs in the chloroplast.
Differences between Oxidative phosphorylation and Photophosphorylation:
| Oxidative phosphorylation | Photophosphorylation |
| It occurs during respiration. | It occurs during photosynthesis. |
| It takes place in aerobes. | It takes place in plants. |
| In this process for the formation of ATP, oxygen is utilized. | In this process oxygen is not ulitized. |
| It doesn't involve pigment systems. | It involves pigment systems(PS-I and PS-II). |
Similarities between Oxidative phosphorylation and Photophosphorylation:
| Oxidative phosphorylation | Photophosphorylation |
| Chemical energy is transferred from food to ATP by mitochondria. | Light energy is transferred to Chemical energy and then to ATP by chloroplast. |
| This process involves flow of electrons through redox reactions. | This process also involves flow of electrons through redox reactions. |
| It takes energy from light. | It takes energy from light. |
