Integrating information from the Levitt article, discuss why gun control laws don’t work, yet imprisonment of offenders does work, when explaining the sharp decrease in crime during the 1990’s.?

Making only gun control laws will not be sufficient. There remains a need to understand the mental status of people which forces them to use guns and firearms in different different situations. There is a need to review the social structure which creates mental pressure which may result into incidents of gun shots.

There remains a need to snatch the guns from the hands of criminals. Gun license should be provided to those people only who have genuine reasons. There should be proper background checks before assigning any gun license.

Increase in number of police is being considered as the one of the reasons for decrease in crime rates in early 1990. Stronger economy also play important role in decrease of crime. If economy remains stronger then more and more employment opportunities remains in generation which causes mind engagement which ultimately leads to decline in crime rates.

There should be proper criminal background checks. Government should impose stricter gun laws along with creation of more jobs. It will keep young minds busy and directed towards constructive works.

There should be proper monitoring of mental health status of people. People should be motivated to get engaged themselves in more creative work. Lessons of social harmony also helps in decrease of crime rates.
