At the age of 10. According to Kohlberg's theory, a person would
be at the second level that is conventional reasoning.
This Moral reasoning includes the following stages
- The good boy and good girl/ interpersonal concordance- The
notion of right and wrong is dependent on the majority and people
around. the child behaves in conformity to social expectation and
getting praise from others. The child will be happy if he behaves
according to the parent's guidelines and accepted norms of friends
circle. He would be in conflict when he does something which was
not allowed by parents or teachers.
- Law and order/Authority and social order- In this child adheres
to the authority and the laws that the big society expects and
finds it right. There is obedience to the fixed rules and
regulations stemming from the social order. Conflict arises when
the child breaks various social laws like stealing, abusing,
destroying property, etc. Adults like parents and teachers have
disregard for this behavior. Friends usually don't like to be with
a person who breaks social rules.
Punishment is more towards
restitution. This involves making the
child learn the correct way by making him some compensation.
- Understanding why he is being punished. What he has done
wrong
- These understanding will make the child not rpeeat the
undesirable behavior.
