Short answer please..
During the site investigation for a highway project, you observed a wet clayey soil deposit. How can you check scientifically the saturation condition of soil in terms of saturated/unsaturated state?
A soil specimen is subjected to a uniformly distributed fluid pressure only in a triaxial compression test. Draw the Mohr’s circle representation of the state of stress within the soil specimen.
Would you like to recommend cohesive soils as the backfills behind a retaining structure? Justify your answer.
*Hydraulic conductivity plays major role in differenting saturated and unsaturated soil. If the pores of the soil are completely filled with water its called saturatesd soil and in this if the water phase is continous the conductivity is maximum. if the soil is partially saturated than its called unsaturated soil and conductivity is decrease due to the presence of air in the voids.

*Its not suitable to use cohessive soil completely beacuse of its volume change characteristics with change in moisture content. main factor to be taken into consideration is friction between the soil particles which would give better resistance against the shear failure. but incase of cohessive soil adhession is factor which do not provide much friction.
