Why is the use of exclusive coercive power an ineffective and impractical method of operating a prison?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer: Prisons are the important elements of CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM apart from police and judiciary.Hence use of exclusive coercive power an ineffective and impractical method of operating a prison because:

1.Prisons are formed for the purpose of Reform in the behaviour of inmates hence behavious of Authorities there to bring change in them is utmost important.

2.You can not expect much change in the prisoners via the same force and violance that they have faced in society as well.As many becoke criminals due to their circumstances.

3.Coercive approach means the authorities trying ensure compliance by appying threat and physical force but rather use of Normative approach may yield good results.

4.Change can be brought by liberal approach rather by hard and fast rules.

5.Making many innovative and practical arrangements and new skills a reality in prison, can give prisoners new skills hence make them economically viable.

Hence authorities must ensure restraints in the application of threat without unnecessary reason.

Hope it helps.
