Expert Solution

Xe lamp is commonly used as a light sources in (UV-Visible) spectrometer, and only flame light source is used in atomic emission spectroscopy.

A solution holder (i.e. cuvette) made of regular glass or plastic (such as polycarbonate, used commonly as a lens material in glasses) should not be used in UV-Vis spectroscopic measurements,

because their absorbance is very high for shorter wavelengths ,320 to 280 nm range as required for UV-Visible spectrophotometry

Answer :Xenon lamp emits entire UV and visible wavelengths and its energy is high ,reaches a steady state readily.

Flame or spark is used to heat up to excite the atoms of sample ,which then emits wavelength of specific wavelengths that can be detected and the sample identified.

A solution holder (i.e. cuvette) made of quartz is used for UV as it can withstand the UV wavelength and optical glass is used for visible light range from 350 -2500nm

Most analytical machines used in science can either measure absorbance of light, like the spectrophotometers used in BioZ 151 and 152 labs, or can measure change in electrical conductance. In order to convert things like absorbance values into concentration data, a linear regression is used. In order to determine nitrite concentration in water samples, nitrite is reacted with several chemicals to produce a purple color. The absorbance of the solution is measured from known amounts of nitrite to produce a...
