Three roles of political parties in American politics :
1. To relay the change in executive power from
one faction to another through elections(Act as an efficient
opposition to ensure the party in power works for the people)
,
2. Mobilization of voters(people) to gain
political support (Representing the interest of a group),
3. Nomination of candidates to publicly held
office positions in the government.
Difference between political parties and interest groups
:
[Basic difference is in internal organization]
1. Political parties have a broader focus and participate
in elections but the interest groups have a narrower focus and do
not participate in elections.
2. While all members of an interest group have
similar views and ideas, not all members of a political party share
the same point of view.
Contribution of political parties to a democratic
government :
1. Influence in making policies which would affect
the public.
2. In elections, presence of different parties
ensure people have a choice of selection people in governing
bodies.
3. Opposition parties can hold governments
accountable for the work being done for the public.
