A consumer is defined as “someone who acquires goods or services for direct use or ownership rather than for resale or use in production and manufacturing. Consumer protection is the duty of the laws, government agencies, and organizations created to ensure consumer rights. Competitive markets also promote the interests of consumers under the principle of economic efficiency.

Significance/ Implication’s of 6 consumer Rights :-

1. Right to Safety- This right aims at defense of consumers against injuries caused by products other than automobile vehicles, and implies that products should cause no harm to their users if such use is executed as prescribed. The right to safety is the first and foremost right of every consumer (consumer rights). All the consumer must have provided with safe goods and products available in the market. Safety is the basic needs of every creature so the right to safety should be available for every consumer while making consumption of those goods. The consumer must be protected from unhealthy, and harmful goods. The legal jurisdiction has powers that allow it to establish performance standards, require product testing and warning labels, demand immediate notification of defective products, and, when necessary, force product recall.

2. Right to be Informed - As a consumer, you have a right to receive accurate information. Consumers can make wise decisions only if they have the information they need. Businesses are required to provide certain details about their products. For example, drug companies must list the complete contents of every medicine. Clothing manufacturers must list the fibers used in materials. Packaged foods must show all ingredients, with the main one listed first. Companies provide this information through product labeling with manufacturing and expiry dates mentioned within.

3. Right to Choose -Businesses compete with each other to sell their products to consumers. They offer new products, lower prices, higher quality, or improved services to get you to choose their products. Competition provides choices. A lack of it hurts consumers. Because of free trade movements, every consumer has even choice of buying home as well as exported products. The government has the power to keep markets competitive. It can use laws to break up monopolies or keep them away from forming. Sometimes it will prevent a large company from buying a smaller one if the purchase would lead to control of a market.

4. Right to be Heard -Consumers who have complaints about products or services have a right to be heard. Suppose you buy a bike helmet from a sporting goods store. After wearing the helmet a few times, you find that the chinstrap keeps coming loose on your face. You have the right to let the store know that you are not satisfied with the helmet. Businesses rely on customer satisfaction and do have an customer centric approach in this new era. The purpose of the customer service department is to listen to the concerns of customers.

5. Right to consumer Education- When you decide to buy an item, you should know that different stores might charge different prices. You should know how to comparison shop to find the best buying option. Consumers have the right to learn how a market system works. You should know how to get the best value and satisfaction for your money. For this, consumer’s need to check the information required by law on labels, and read fact sheets about products

6. Right To Service -Every consumer has the right to be treated equally without discrimination on the basis of your race, gender, income, or age.. Consumer’s have the right to expect prompt delivery of goods or services that meet the standard of quality a business claims. For example, Online giants like Amazon serves as a great example of prompt & fastest delivery services.
