Ans -7 most common diseases of potato are as follows-

(A) - Bacterial wilt

Caused by Ralstonia solanacearum . It's common name is bacterial wilt of potato.

Plant symptoms are- Leaves becomes yellow at their bases and then the whole plant wilts and dies.

(B) - Septoria leaf spot

Caused by fungus Septoria lycopersici.

Plant symptoms are- small, round to irregular spots with the grey centre and dark margins on leaves.

(C)- Late blight - .

Caused by - Phytophthora infestans .

Plant symptoms are- Affected stems begin to blacken from their tips , and eventually dry out.

(D)- Early blight

Caused by - Fungus Alternaria solani.

Plant symptoms are- Small, black lesions especially on older foliage. Spots enlarge with time.

(E)- Common scab

Caused by- Streptomyces scabies.

Plant symptoms are- Several type of cork like lesions on the surface of potato tuber.Damaged tuber have rough , cracked skin with scab like spots.

(F)- Black scuff/ canker

Caused by- Rhizoctonia solani

Plant symptoms are- Infected tuber causing black scurf which is purely cosmetic , reduces tuber appearance and does not reduce yield.

(G)- Potato spindle tuber disease

Caused by - Potato spindle tuber viroid

Plant symptoms are-Mild foliar symptoms including smaller leaves that curl downwards , giving the plant a more upright growth habit. Plants can also be stunted and leaves can be grey and destorted.
