: Q19: In a broad sense, why is the STUXNET virus important?
In a broad sense, the STUXNET virus is important as the only purpose it was developed for was to delay or postpone the nuclear program of Iran long enough so to at least make them negotiate. This caused the computer virus or the worm to alter the machine that was involved in the nuclear program, causing it to spin very fast and destroy the materials used or making nuclear weapons. It was important as it targeted and attacked Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and is believed it was responsible to cause considerable damage and loss to the nuclear program (bad and dangerous) of Iran. It was developed for sabotaging the nuclear enrichment facility of Iran, otherwise, Iran could have committed a blunder done and done bad with its nuclear program. Stuxnet successfully disrupted and destroyed over 900 centrifuges in Iran, which slowed its nuclear program down by 30%. Stuxnet virus did not do much harm to many as it only targeted the machines' PLC in the centrifuges.
It was important because it was developed to fight only the bad actors.
