1. Briefly explain 2 ways in which the geographic location affect the environmental impact of a building.
2. Explain how the impact of COVID19 related to sustainability. Explain how COVID 19 impact 3 civil system: ( Water, energy, transportation)
Q.1. Environmental impact means any change in environment wheather adverse or benificial due to any activity. Two ways in which the geographic location of building affects the environmental impact of building :
a) Energy use : according to the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), buildings account for an average of 41% of the world’s energy use. It means a lot of energy in terms and construction and the electricity required to run these buildings is very high and generation of energy impacts the environment while the geographic location of the building alters the consumption of the energy.
A building’s lighting system, heating and cooling system and outlet use all contribute to environment impact and their usage is totally based upon the Geographic conditions.
b) Construction materials : The materials used in building construction also have a serious impact on the environment because we pollute air in manufacturing them.
Selection and the consumption of the materials is totally dependent upon the Geographic location of the building for example : For different types of soils we use different types and depths of footings which vary the amount of material used, we need refractory materials and glass in building construction if the location is in high temperature zone and the architecture and aesthetics also varies with the location which affects the environmental impact.
