What are some examples of survival mechanisms that marine organisms have developed in the Ocean depths
?
Marine organisms struggle for surviving or escape a quick death. some species had to evolve, adapt, or develop new technique for survival. They adopt various strategies for food gathering, shelter and of course the protective mechanism when they are under threat. Darwins theory say only fittest one is survive other which is not fit is lost.
1) Camouflage and mimicry:- flate fishes changes colour depending on their environment.
2) Venom and poison:- The Stonefish are considered as the most venomous fishes on the planet. They have 13 spines on their back associated with poison organs that they immediately set up if there should be an occurrence of risk.
3) Fishes live in colony to protect each other when attacked by a predator. They have sensible receptors are capable of detecting any small change in their surroundings. They change color and direction, increasing their speed. fishes adopt strategies like blending in their surroundings to confuse their enemies.
4) Electric shock:- capable of sending electric shocks from 100 to 700 volts. It is able to kill a human being. E.g. Torpedo Ray, Electric catfish, Electric eels
5) Inflamation:- balloonfish that fills up with water or air when it feels threatened. Some have spines all over their body that they use as deterrent blades.
6) Liqvid discharge:- some fishes discharge liquid. Hag fish release mucus, it fills the mouth of attacker and he will not able to breath.
7) Illuminating light:- Ostracods that mainly feed on planktons. It start to shake violently plankton through their transparent body, and become to shine. The illuminated predator becomes an easy prey to its own predators.
