Expert Solution

Step 1: Recognizing the Need for a Product or a Service

There are a large number of products and services that are designed by engineers which we use every day. And some of these products which are already in use or newly created are being upgraded every other day. For example, home appliances or automobiles are being redesigned to integrate the latest technologies. There is a saying every time when someone complains about a situation or service or product then there is a prospect for a new product or a service. So we’ve established that there is always a need for advancement you just need to recognize and identify the prospects or requirements of new products and services which can resolve any situation in an easier and effective way.

Step 2: Problem Definition and Understanding

A key step in the design process is to define and understand the problem. If you cannot really understand the problem then you most certainly cannot resolve it. So the best way to understand any problem is to ask a question about it. For example, if you get a contract then for better understanding you ask numerous questions about a problem to define and understand it well so to give a viable solution for it.

Step 3: Research and Preparation

After understanding the problem, next step is to collect information about it. You’ve to do research about it such as is there any other products which function the same as yours or you can get other essential information to make your much more effective and by researching and gathering information about you may be able to eliminate the mistakes done by others earlier.

Step 4: Conceptualization

In this phase of design, you need to think of some ideas that could provide good solutions to your problems. During this phase, you don’t need to go in specifics of each possible solution yet you just need to build various concepts to solve the problem.

Step 5: Synthesis

In this phase, you start to go into details of the problems and analyze the problems by calculating variables and make models to analyze it in a more effective way. You need to consult standards and codes to make sure that your design will be in accordance with them.

Step 6: Evaluation

In this phase, you need to analyze the problem in more detail. Make working models and test them, you need to be certain about all your calculations and design parameters. At this stage, you need to select the best solution from all the alternatives.

Step 7: Optimization

It means both maximization or minimization. There are broadly two types of designs, one functional design that meets all of the predefined design requirements but there are still hope enhancement in certain specific areas. Optimization is always done some certain criteria such as size, weight, cost, noise, strength, etc. there is one more important thing to keep in thought is that optimizing a certain specific part of an engineering system doesn’t necessarily mean the whole system will be optimized. The process of optimization starts with the initial design, doing analysis, evaluating the results, and figuring out whether we can improve the design or not.

Step 8: Presentation

So having a final solution is not enough you need to show it your senior or client whoever you work for. And for that you need to make a no. of technical progress reports, drawings, charts, etc in support of your solution and the best way to communicate is to give a presentation of it. After arriving at the final solution you need to present it well so that one could understand what you are trying to establish.
