3. What is the just-in-time (JIT) manufacturing? How to achieve it? How does it impact facilities design? (15 pts)
JUST IN TIME MANUFACTURING
Just in time manufacturing is also known as just in time production System. This the process which is mainly aimed for reducing the time between the production system and suppliers and also responsible aas e time from suppliers to the customers It is generally Japanese technology. It is the management technique in manufacturing which aligns the orders from the suppliers directly to the line and there is no storage required is this technique is being used in the manufacturing system.
There are different manufacturing process as short cycle manufacturing ,demand flow manufacturing ,down flow manufacturing but the JIT manufacturing is best out of all these which uses the kanban system also to check the time available in between. It saves cost as there is no requirement of storage space for this process.
Acheiving JIT:
For achieving the JIT system technique in to the manufacturing system there are some points which needs to be condirerd before designing the system if all these points are considered properly they make the system perfect for the use and these are as given below;
Impact of JIT on facility managenent:
JIT not only reduce the inventory storage cost but it also provide the value of time antithes achievement of targets. Less space is required for management of facility. It reduces inventory stock pile up and increase the quality of the product .production lead times are reduced in a big way with the less manufacturing costs involved in the process. As fat as facility ulitization is concerned, machines utilization is maximum and with the proper flexibility. So proper facility management is achieved with the help of JIT manufacturing technique. It redice the time between the supplier and customer by achieving the maximum facility capacity and the out put is achieved. The main advantage of JIT manufacturing technique is that wastes are eliminated in between the process as the material is not stored any where and directly fed to the production line.
