Question: 1. List ALL the components necessary to build a 100BASE-TX network, including the quantity needed...
The 100 BASE-TX network is a standard for the implementation of Fast Ethernet network. It is based on the 802.3u specification developed by the IEEE() and is an extension of the 802.3 specifications.
In the 100BaseTX network, the network elements are wired together in astart topology using UTP(Unshielded twisted pair) cabling or STP cables. The network requires super-fast ethernet switches having capabilities in excess of 100 Megabits per second.
The most common type of cabling used is UTP which must be cat5 (cat5 cables are used as they provide capabilities up to 100Mhz). The network uses two pairs of wires with one for transmission and the other for reception. The network requires that the length of the cable be no more than 100 meters from a workstation to the nearest hub.The connectors used are of RJ45 types.
A sample network is given below:-
The components required are:-
1. RJ45 Connectors - 14 = Number of Interconnect Points
2.100BASETX Hubs - 2
3.Fast Ethernet Switch -1
4. Workstations -3
5. File Servers -2
6.cat5 cable = 7* 100 meters = 700 meters considering the network elements are as far apart as allowed by the network configuration.
