(3) a brief explanation of the symptoms associated with the disease selected and its impact on the function of myelin sheath 10-pts.
multiple sclerosis
Tay-Sachs disease
Canavan disease
Multiple Sclerosis: Symptoms:1) symptoms depends from person to person and from the location of effected nerve fibers.
2).Weakness in one or more limbs typically on one side of body at a time.
3).Pain in eye during eye movements.partial or complete loss of vision.Double vision may occur.
4).with the movement of neck electronic shock sensation occurs.
5).Fatigue or body pain occurs.
6).Dizziness or Slurred speech.
7).Disease cause the nerve themeselvesto detereodete to become permantly damaged.
8).Impact on myelin sheath:in multiple sclerosis the immune system attacks the protective sheath known as myelin that covers nerve fibers.
9).There is no cure of this disease but treatment can help to speed recovery from attacks.
10).Sometimes this disease lead to psychiatric problems.
11).viral infections increases their risks.
Canavan disease:
1).Canavan is classified as a leukodystrophy disease,a gp.of neurological disorders that effect the growth of myelin sheath.
2).The buildup of NAA occurs that causes damage to the myelin, that is a type of fat that surround s the axon.
3).It prevents the nerve cells from properly sending and receiving information.
4). Children born with canavan disease is not recognized at births.signs of the disease usully starts to appear within a few months.
5).It is a autosomal recessive disease.
6).The disease leads to poor head control, feeding difficulties, abnormal muscles, intellectual disabilities we
7).This disease does not seems to have any effect on lifespan, and is typically limited to minor cases of speech and motor skill development delay.
8). paralysis, blindness,or hearing loss may also occurs.
9).Flexible of arms: arm muscles tend to be flexed.Hyperextension of the legs: legs are kept abnormally straight.
10).Seizures may occurs.
Effect of myelin sheath:it is caused by by deficiency in gene encoding a protein called aspartoacylase .it is though to be involved in removal of water from certain types of brain cells,as well as in the formation of myelin lipids. It leads to demyelination.
