What are gender roles and gender role differences across cultures.
Gender role is a social role attached to particular genders such as male and female. Today we have more than one gender because of people’s sexuality but primarily there are only two. These roles include the expected behaviors and attitudes of different genders. It also includes how one should think, talk, dress and even eat. Some of the common roles for men is to work outside and provide for the family, protect the family from the dangers and settle the children. Women should take care of the kids at home, cook and do all the household chores. They are also responsible for disciplining the children while the man is away. Man is supposed to be brave while the woman is supposed to be gentle and humble. Man is supposed to be arrogant while the woman is expected to be meek and modest.
Although women were considered secondary to men in almost all the cultures earlier, women have attained enough freedom and status in developed countries while in other developing and underdeveloped countries women are still considered secondary to men. In most of the cultures women have less power to make decisions and propose changes in the society.
