Ans - Benefits of prokaryotic cells-
- Bacteria created the atmosphere’s oxygen levels, beginning
around 2.5 billion years ago. These initial photosynthesizers,
called cyanobacteria, still exist today. Their ancestors lived in a
world with no atmospheric oxygen and used energy from the sun and
chemicals in primordial oceans to create their own food, similar to
modern plants.
- Bacteria in our guts and mouth help with the digestion of food
by breaking down difficult to digest carbohydrates and other
compounds.
- Waste breakdown- Decomposition is the process
by which dead organic substances are broken down into simpler
organic or inorganic matter such as carbon dioxide , water and
mineral salt. The process is a part of the nutrient cycle and is
essential for recycling the finite matter that occupies physical
space in the biosphere. Bacteria act as decomposers are organisms
that break down dead or decaying organisms, they carry out
decomposition.
- Some species of bacteria even consume oil, and helped rapidly
break down and eliminate large volumes of oil from the Deepwater
Horizon spill in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010.
- Fermentation is a metabolic process that produces chemical
changes in organic substrates through the action of by bacteria,
yeasts, or other microorganisms.
