Answers:

1) cost reduction

It is not a goal of the l/o software

The rest of the options are the goals of the I/o software

Like error handling ,device independence, uniform naming and buffering

It does don't have a goal of reducing the cost

Uniform naming is done in the I/o software in a way that user does not have aware of hardware name

And it has buffering in which data entering into the system cannot store directlyin memory

And errors are handled by the controller and it has device independence

And it does not look after the cost reduction.

2)SCSI ultra 5 bus is faster than Thunder bolt 2 bus

It is the false statement according to the data rates and rest of the options are true

As Thunder bolt2 bus is the fastest among most

And SCSI ultra 5 bus is slower than the thunderbolt 2

And rest of the obtions are correct beacuse

Key board has low data rate than mouse so keyboard is slower than mouse.

And FireWire 800 is slower than usb3.0

It is true beacuse, usb 3.0 is advanced version with increasing data rate of usb 2.0 , previously FireWire 80/ use to be faster than usbs but ,usb3.0 which increased data rate is faster than FireWire 800

And socnet oc-768 is faster than gigabit ethernet as it has 1gbps which is slower than socnet oc_768

3)disk

Disk is not character device

First we have to know what is character device ,it is device which donot have the physical storage or addressable media

Disk has storage or addressable media

Where key board, mouse and printer doesn't have storage media so they are character device.

4)to improve the performance and the fault tolerance

It is main purpose of adapting RAID

Raid main features is to improve the performance and reliability

Reliability which includes the fault tolerance

It does not mainly concentrates on cost reduction, capacity of the disk

Or for encrypted format

It mainly focus on speed that is performance and fault tolerance.

Consider a device driver that manages the I/O to a specific device. Multiple threads in the system need to read information from the device. The device can only support one I/O command at a time. Previous I/O commands must complete before a new one is issued. Assume the device can be read using a readDevice( what ) method. Write a read( what ) method to be called by any thread in the system that wants to read something from the...

Problem 2. Interrupt-driven I/O (20 pt.) Consider a system employing interrupt-driven I/O for a particular device that transfers data at an average of 2000 bytes/sec on a continuous basis. a. Assume that interrupt processing takes about 200 usec (i.e., the time to jump to the interrupt service routine (ISR), execute it, and return to the main program). Determine what fraction of processor time is consumed by this I/O device if it interrupts for every byte. b. Now assume that the...

Course: Computer Architecture (Theme: Input-Output) A computer consists of a processor and an I/O device D connected to main memory M via a shared bus with a data bus width of one word. The processor can execute a max of 2 MIPS. An average instruction requires 5 machine cycles, 3 of which use the memory bus. A memory read/write operation uses 1 m/c cycle. Suppose that the processor is continuously executing “background” programs that require 96% of the instruction rate...

Which of the following is NOT an assumption of the Industrial Organization, or I/O,   model? Organizational decision makers are rational and committed to acting in the firm’s best interests. Resources to implement strategies are not highly mobile across firms. The external environment is assumed to impose pressures and constraints that determine the strategies that result in superior performance. Firms in given industries, or given industry segments, are assumed to control similar strategically relevant resources.
