Compare a termite colony to a living plant (Like a tree, shrub, etc.) .
Termites are social insects like bees, ants, etc. Like all other social insects, termites make colonies rear themselves. They show division of labour like many other colony insects or organisms.
A living plant (a tree) can be considered as an entity with different parts of it doing different functions for the total survival of the plant. In a plant, the roots are the organs for absorption and intake of water and minerals. The trunk of a plant chiefly consists of xylem and phloem for water conduction to the canopy. The canopy of the plant with leaves are the parts for photosynthesis, thereby aid in food production. The outer protective covering of a plant( bark of plant ) help in defence from pathogens. Similarly, a termite colony has sterile workers /swarmers for doing work and defending the territory, queen of the colony and male termites which are fertile helps in the reproduction of the colony.
Overall mutual contribution from all brings up a successful colony and a plant.
