Does equating status with authority cause confusion? Why or why not?
Equity status does not cause confusion. Equity means the equal to someone and whereas authority means one has power to exercise some order and make someone to do perform activity. Nurses are equal to physician. Because, nurses have their nursing diagnosis, nursing intervention and management to care the patient as physician even though formation of diagnosis is different. Nurses have their status in the professional knowledge, competencies regarding patient care.
nurses have their own ethical code of nurse, roles and responsibility, autonomy, authority. nurse are required to obey the code of ethics.
Nurse has professional authority in the means of responsibility, validity, intellectual engagement, safe and restorative surroundings, and visibility. eventhough all nurses are equal in professional, Only advanced Nurse practitioners acts as an independent nurses and have their own authority same like physician in many of procedures. Advanced Nurse practitioner prescribes the medication after finding out the problem of the patient and also gives suggestion to the physician in collaborative care management in United Kingdom and united status and according to individual states. Advanced Nurse practitioner has administrative and authority to tell their opinion and perform some procedure without asking the physician such as administer pain medication, checking blood glucose and vital signs, physical assessment. Some of the nurses are dependent on physician for providing care to the patient like emergency medication, sedatives. Authority is different in various level of nursing according to knowledge, experience. Ineffective nurse and unqualified cannot take authority over the experienced and advance nurse practitioner, physician
