Briefly describe the link-state protocol known as OSPF
and explain how it copes with routing inside a large and complex
autonomous system. (4)
Link state protocol also known as open shortest path first is an intra domain routing protocol for internet protocol network. Open shortest path first (OSPF) uses link state routing algorithm and it comes under the group of interior gateway protocol thatthat comes under group of interior gateway protocol.OSPF protocol is used in in local area network system which is an autonomous system.
For routing inside a large and complex autonomous system the protocol divides the complex autonomous system into different areas. These areas are collection of different routers most that lies within the complex autonomous system.
These complex autonomic system which are divided into many areas are all connected.
The network that is divided can be further subdivided or it can be structured into many other type of areas so that the administration can be simplified and the traffic and resource could be optimised for utilisation.
There are different areas. The routers which are in the area cells are with the routing information and at every border of the area there are other special routers known as border routers.
this summarises information related to the area in which it lies and it also has information about some other areas.
There are some special area known as backbone to which other areas are connected. This area is known as primary area. Two different areas if can't be connected directly then they need to be connected with a backbone network because connections are necessary. Each area have their own identity. Border area router is used to connect to area which are situated at the border.
