Teaming Across Distance and Culture. • What are the major effects of the physical separation of group members? How can distance, in some cases, be beneficial to groups and teams? • What other areas of organizational behavior or design are impacted by information technology, and what are the implications for organizational change? • Brainstorm some ways to “redesign” your office space (or an office space you have previously worked in) on paper using virtual or flexible space, or flexible furniture. How would this redesign enhance successful teamwork? • What are some of the ways that cross-cultural teams are distinguished from other types of teams? What are some of the benefits and difficulties of building a cross-cultural team?

Expert Solution

Major effects of the physical separation of group members: A group will be formed volutalriy with their interest to achive some common objectives, which may or may not be related to the organization. The people may join with their interest, to accomplish their personal objectives. Suppose the people who smokes all may join as group, they join in a place and have some chat with cigar. The major problem here is, once they formed, it is difficult to distiguish or seperate them from one another.

Seperation: separation the people from one to another will be benefited in some cases. Particularly these people may spend lesser times on work and higher times on other activities at the work place. they prefers to chat with others and spread gossips rather than propose positive and healthy work environment. Hence, seperation is good in some times, which help the organization to become stronger.

All the areas in the organization will be effected with Information Technology. Right from recruitment to the customer relations, employee hiring, measuring employee satisfaction, minimizing the wastage of resources, introducing new products into the product portfolio etc, in each area it shows the impact.

Change is good, particularly positive change helps a firm to beat the competition and enjoys its stature in market. the same will be happen with Brainstorming. Most of the people who have experienced will be form together and the management will drawn a good decision from these people. Based on the result and their feedback, the management will take a positive and good decision. These new and innovative ideas help the people take-up challanges at the work place and the teams works to achieve their targets. The more challanging tasks leads the teams to stand together and achieve more than normal.

The people who belongs to different backgrounds, if they joined together, they will take innovative, new and hybrid decisions. Every professional person have their own limitations, when they join together, the boundaries will be enlarged. Suppose, as a management student, i may not know much about technology and its utililities. Suppose if I been with other one who belongs to technical stream, we both can take a good decision. When people join from different cultures and backgrounds, they give more benefits than normal ones. They have identified different openions of others, they comes to know different cultures, living styles, working habbits, perceptions, and so on. it will benefited in the form of :

  • good and positive perceptions among workers
  • promote positive cultural management
  • encourage problem soliving skills among all
  • understand each other and leads to positive and strong team work
  • organization can promote in many dimensions and
  • it can grow faster and wider.
