sewer gas is a complex mixture of toxic and non-toxic gases produces and collected in sewage by the decomposition of organic and industrial wastewaters typical gasses include ammonia (NH3) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S). briefly describe one environmental or health impact from each compound and one appropriate engineering strategy to recuce the environmental or health impact if each of the two gasses
Environmental impacts of ammonia-
it causes unpleasant odour, which is detectable even at low concentrations.
at high concentration it can harm vegetation.
the harm causes to water bodies is very serious, because it is very toxic to aquatic animals.
it can cause leaching of water bodies.
at high concentration it can affect human eyes, throat and can burn the skin.
For reducing environmental impact:-
We must have to use less number of pesticides in the field.
Reducing crude protein in the diet can reduce nitrogen lost through beef cattle urine and feces.
Environmental impacts of hydrogen sulphide -
it affects human respiratory system and can causes severe damage to organs.
in low concentration it may cause irritation to eyes, nose, throat.
it is a flammable gas and highly explosive.
Reducing the imapcts-
1)- use exhaust and ventilation system in workplace
2)- train and educate workers about its hazards
3)- establishe proper reuse procedures.
