A gas mixture with a total pressure of 770 mmHg contains each of the following gases at the indicated partial pressures: 133 mmHg CO2, 233 mmHg Ar, and 183 mmHg O2. The mixture also contains helium gas. What is the partial pressure of the helium gas?
Solution :-
Total pressure = 770 mmHg
partial pressure of CO2 = 133 mmHg
partial pressure of Ar = 233 mmHg
partial pressure of O2 = 183 mmHg
partial pressure of He= ?
Total pressure is the sum of the partial pressure of the all gases in the mixture
therefore
parital pressure of the He = total pressure - ( P CO2 + P Ar + P O2)
= 770 mmHg - ( 133 mmHg + 233 mmHg + 183 mmHg)
= 221 mmHg
Therefore the parital pressure of the He = 221 mmHg
