NERVE BLOCKING USED BY LOCAL ANAESTHETIC AGENT. - SURGICAL MANAGEMENT- IDENTIFY AND REMOVE IRRITATION CAUSE, GAMMA KNIFE RADIOSURGERY. * GUILLAIN - BARRE SYNDROME- _ ALSO KNOWN AS INFLAMMATORY POLY NEUROPATHY. IT IS AN INFLAMMATORY DISEASE CHARACTERIZED BY ONSET OF SYMMETRICAL WEAKNESSES TO PARALYSIS. _ MYELIN SHEATH OF SPINAL CORD AND CRANIAL NERVES IS DESTROYED BY INFLAMMATORY REACTION. THERE ARE TWO TYPE OF GBS: ASCENDING AND DESCENDING GBS. ASCENDING GBS MEANS " PROGRESSIVE WEAKNESS AND NUMBNESS BEGINS FROM LEGS AND TO UPWARD. IT IS MOST COMMON. DESCENDING GBS MEANS " IT ORIGINATES FROM BRAIN STEM". _ ETIOLOGY- AUTO IMMUNE RESPONSE TO ANY TYPE OF VIRAL INFECTION OR VACCINATION. EXACT CAUSE IS UNKNOWN. _ SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS- RAPID ONSET OF MUSCLE WEAKNESS, WITH OR WITHOUT MUSCLE ATROPHY, UNABLE TO TAKE DEEP BREATH, URINARY RETENTION, NUMBNESS AND CRAMPING, CARDIAC DYSARRYTHMIAS _ COMPLICATIONS- RESPIRATORY FAILURE, INFECTION AND DEPRESSION _ DIAGNOSTIC MEASURE- LUMBAR PUNCTURE, CSF ANALYSIS SHOWS ELEVATED PROTEIN LEVEL, EMG AND PFT. _ MEDICAL MANAGEMENT - PLASMAPHERESIS IS USED TO REMOVE THE PATIENT PLASMA AND REPLACED WITH FRESH PLASMA,
