Many factors are supposed to combine together to affect the health of an individual and communities. The environment and circumstances determine whether an individual is healthy or not. According to WHO, the main determinants of health include the social and economic environment,the physical environment,and the person's individual characteristics and behaviours.

The determinants of health include:

The maintenance and promotion of health is achieved through different combination of physical, mental, and social well-being. The environment in which an individual dwells is often cited as an important factor influencing the health status of individuals. Genetics, or inherited traits from parents, also play a role in health determination. Another health issue majorly among children includes obesity and malnutrion. The two are the major reasons of ill health and even death in children. Lifestyle choices greatly influence health such as smoking, alcohol intake, poor unhealthy diet. The context of people's lives determine their health, and so blaming indivoduals for blaming poor helath or crediting them for good health is inappropriate.
