The following is a story narrated to a systems analyst involved in developing an information system for selecting and ordering a book for a library. “A library employed a branch librarian and five librarians. Each month, the librarians placed a check mark against a list of forthcoming books received for pre-order. The branch librarian would order books with at least three check marks after exercising his own judgment. However, the librarians believed that the head librarian was not using his judgment at all. Moreover, as there was only one librarian who handled children’s books, they were rarely ordered. They proved their point by placing a check mark against a highly priced book that was not relevant to the library, yet the book was ordered and received.”
i. Discuss how a systems analyst can use this story for information system design and development.
ii. Should a systems analyst complement this story with other information gathering methods? Why?
I.) A system analyst can use this story for information system design and development as this story is a clear example of how a poor design of a system can lead to chaos in the later stage of the system like in the story we can see that the the poor management and power of librarian lead to unnecessary expenses and irregular book ordering so the system analyst can take this an example for a better design that can work seamlessly and correlate with every module available in the code and develop a best suited called for the the problem given to them.
ii.) System analyst can complement this story by other gathering methods because for a system analyst is is very important to gather information from all around the sources and get the best possible details for the problem and taking this story as an example they can search for the other details and gather much details about a single situation in order to create and design and develop the best project for it.
