This activity we will begin in class session and you will be responsible for completing and submitting through Blackboard.  The  titles below will allow you to brainstorm on paper and then submit a narrative of your discoveries.

To begin you will need to think of a good/ great leader that you have admired or worked with in the past. Think about the qualities that individual displayed during your interactions with or observations of that person that made you admire him or her.

Next, think of a good manager you have worked with or have had interactions with in some realm of your professional life- even if you have not worked in a job you think is a professional setting, you had a manager at some point. (Coach, parent, teacher, counselor, etc.).

Using the two titles, list the items about that individual that made them good or great. The object is that only positive remarks can be used in this exercise! (Not always easy J )

In your narrative you will compare the graphic information about the two people you chose for the exercise.  Discuss the qualities that were identical, different or similar.  Submit via Blackboard for the grading process.

Leader Name: Lisa Dampier

She was the leader of the team when I first started my career as a software engineer in one of the Insurance companies based in Milwaukee. On our very first meeting she made me feel very much comfortable and also asked about my family and my hobbies as well as my aspirations, when I started working as a professional I always felt that she has something because of which she is different from the crowd and that was her decision making ability along with problem solving skills which was of high level. She always directed the team and whenever the team succeeded she used to appreciate the team and convey that the team is the actual winner but when the team failed she used to take the blame on her. I believe that she was a born leader with minimum aggression in her behaviors but she was very aggressive in her work and that was clear from the strategy and approach she displayed towards work. As a leader she used to safeguard protect the team whenever required and even communicate effectively to resolve issues.

Manager Name - Bob Seidwig

After my transfer to Milwaukee the first manager under whom I started my project was one of the coolest and supportive managers I have ever came across in my professional career. He was actually more of a technical manager where he was involved in the technical aspects and was aware of each and everything that was going in the project and always maintained an environment that the team is in line with the project and that is the reason he was successful. The primary reason why he was such a hit among employees is because of nature to communicate and interact like a friend and even approachable personally. I had a lot to learn from him during those two years and he will remain as the most cool manager I have ever worked with.

If we look at both of them we will see that Liza was very strict about work whereas Bob was a bit laid back and used to take things a bit relaxed way although both were always supporting the team and wanted to go even a step ahead for the betterment of the team. I believe that there are certain other characteristics as well in which they might be identical and even different and as they are two different individuals we should not be comparing them in anyway.
