For the following two movements, compare (a) the type of kinematics (i.e., proximal-on-distal or distal-on-proximal segment) and (b) the relative demands placed on the quadriceps muscles.

  • First movement: From a deep squat position, come to a standing position.
  • Second movement: From a seated position, straighten out the leg.

Expert Solution

A squat is a strength exercise performed by trainee in which lowers their hips from the standing position and then stands back up. During descent of a squat, the hip joint and knee joint flex while the ankle joint dorsiflex; conversely the hip and knee joints extend and the ankle joint plantarflexes when standing up. Squats are one of the best exercise for increasing the strength and size of the lower body muscles as well as developing core strength. Dring the squat quadriceps muscles are used primarily. The squat also isometrically uses the spine and the abdominal muscles, among others.Squat is one of the 3 lifts in strength sport of power lifting, deadlift & the bench press. Quadriceps muscle is good extension muscle of the knee, forming a large fleshy mass which covers the front and sides of femur.
All four quadriceps are powerful extensors of the knee joint. They are crucial in walking, running, jumping and squatting. Because the rectus femoris attaches to the ilium, it is also a flexor of the hip. This action is also crucial to walking or running as it swings the leg forward into the ensuing step. The quadriceps, specifically the vastus medialis, play the important role of stabilizing the patella and the knee joint during gait.

Write a Comparator to compare two Rationals so that a/b>c/d if a>c i.e. sort by increasing order of numerators only. Test your program by modifying the code below. Note do NOT change the Rational class in order to solve this problem. Code: public class Rational implements Comparable<Rational> {    //Declaring instance variables double numerator = 0; double denominator = 1; //Parameterized constructor public Rational(double n,double d){ numerator=n; denominator=d; } // getters and setters public void setNumerator(double value) { this.numerator =...

A crossover trial is a type of experiment used to compare two drugs. Subjects take one drug for a period of time, then switch to another. The responses of the subjects are then compared using matched-pair methods. In an experiment to compare two pain relievers, seven subjects took one pain reliever for two weeks, then switched to the other. They rated their pain level from 1 to 10, with larger numbers representing higher levels of pain. Can you conclude that...

Q: Two surgical procedures are widely used to treat a certain type of cancer. To compare the success rates of the two procedures, random samples of the two types of surgical patients were obtained and the numbers of patients who showed no recurrence of the disease after a 1-year period were recorded. The data are shown in the table. A test at the 0.05 level of significance is conducted to test whether there is a difference in the success rates...
