Write a hypothesis test problem using the option below. Gather appropriate data and post your problem (without a solution) in the discussion topic.
Option 1:
Think about a population mean that you may be interested in and propose a hypothesis test problem for this parameter. Gather appropriate data and post your problem.
For example, you may believe that the population mean number of times that adults go out for dinner each week is less than 1.5. Your data could be that you spoke with 7 people and found that they went out 2, 0, 1, 5, 0, 2, and 3 times last week. You then would choose to test this hypothesis at the .05 (or another) significance level. Assume a random sample.
Can someone write me a problem???
SOLUTION:
From given data,
The population mean number of times that adults go out for dinner each week is less than 1.5. Your data could be that you spoke with 7 people and found that they went out 2, 0, 1, 5, 0, 2, and 3 times last week. You then would choose to test this hypothesis at the .05 (or another) significance level
Sample : 2, 0, 1, 5, 0, 2, 3
n = 7
= Sample mean = (2+0+1+5+0+2+3) / 7
= 13 / 7
= 1.857
n = Sample size = 7
s = sample standard deviation = 1.7728
Hypothesis,
H0 = = 1.5
H1 = < 1.5
Test statistic under H0
t = ( - ) / (s / ) tn-1
= (1.857 - 1.5) / ( 1.7728 /)
= 0.357 / 0.6700554
= 0.53279
Degree of freedom = df =n-1 = 7 -1 = 6
significance level = = 0 .05
P-value = P( t > 0.53279 ) = 0 .306692.
p-value > significance level
Therefore , we retain the null hypothesis and conclude
that the population mean number of times that adults go out for dinner each week is less than 1.5 at 0.05 level of significance.
