It’s the winter holiday break, but around the Capitol, the cherry trees that normally flower in spring have started blooming. However, the oak trees have not. What factors have contributed to the perennial cherry tress blooming, but not other perennial trees, like oak? (Recall that annual and biennial plants are different from perennial plants). Expected length: 1-1 ½ pages
A perennial is a plant which grows for more than three years. They are classified as woody or non-woody. The cherry plants have a very short period of ripening and lasts for about 2-3 weeks. Therefore, these plants start blossoming during spring after the break in winter.
Annual plants are those plants which complete their life span in a single year. The seed germinates and the plant grows with the formation of fruits. These plants can survive the different conditions of harshness and severity with changes in temperature conditions.Biennial is a plant which grows for about 2 years. It produces the leaves the first year, with formation of fruits and dies the second year.
The different conditions required for the growth of plants include-soil type, drainage, pH, concentration of the nutrients in the soil, moisture and humidity in the soil, and the region suitable for growing the crops in the soil.
The oak trees do not blossom in the winter break as the formation of the fruit and ripening depends upon the different seasons and their are inherent mechanisms which affect the formation of the fruits in oak like the production of the hormones which causes the formation of fruits in the other seasons like spring. During the winter the oak corn gets dried due to the harsh weather conditions and falls on the ground. There is a chance that it can get ripened due to the change in the weather conditions during the spring. During the summer drought season there is a chance that the oak fruits may get destroyed due to the chance of getting a fungal infection.
