A culture media is a particular
type of medium used for the growth of microorganisms in
microbiological laboratories or we can say that culture media is
the food used to grow microbes under specific conditions.
A culture medium contains different
kinds of nutrients and other essential components needed for the
microbial growth.
Actually microorganisms are
composed of very different and taxonomically diverse groups.
Culturing microorganisms for
different kinds of research is challenging because
they need different kinds of culture medium due to the
highly specific nutritional and environmental
requirements.
Various kinds of microorganisms
succeed at different environmental conditions and have different
growth requirements like; nutrients,vitamins,pH,temperature, and
osmotic conditions.Because of this different requirements and needs
microbiologist has to use different types of culture media for
different microbes.
Microbial culture media can be of
varying type, depending on the nutritional growth requirements of
the microbe.
Simple,synthetic or complex media
are used for the growth of bacteria, where they vary in nutritional
components.
For the growth of a fungus, usually
microbiologist uses a media containing high carbohydrate and
nitrogen source and they need a temperature ranging from 15 to 37°c
at a pH 5 to 6 .Natural and synthetic media are the two types of
fungal culture media.
Among Bacteria, Different strain
needs different culture medium according to their growth factors
the same can happen in fungus and other microbial group.
In case of streptococci, they do not
grow rigorously in ordinary growth media. Here we can use Blood agar
which is a type of growth medium that encourages the growth of
bacteria like streptococci.
Why we grow the microorganisms in the form of slants, on liquid
media and on solid media? Why doesn’t 48ºC to 50ºC temperature of
the melted agar kill most of the bacteria?

Why is it crucial for a microbiologist working in a laboratory to
practice aseptic technique during various microbiology techniques
like media preparation, inoculation of microorganisms etc?

In many areas where WHO works, there are many illnesses caused
by different types of microorganisms. Understanding the field of
microbiology will help you to sort out the harmful and beneficial
effects of microorganisms. Think about what you already know about
microbes. Are they all bad? See if you can think of beneficial and
harmful microorganisms. What tools would you need to identify
microorganisms that cause disease?
Iron is an important item for the growth of microorganisms in a
pathogenic state in the human body. Describe two ways in which
bacteria might attempt to obtain iron from human cells or tissues
for their own use. Then, describe a way in which this bacterial
iron-scavenging might be disrupted without harming the human
cells/tissues in the process.
Why are there different types of charts and graphs for different
types of data (nominal, ordinal, scale?)
Why do some charts use "frequencies" and others use real
numbers? What is the difference?

There are different types of IS that can be used to support
different functional business processes in an organization.
a) Suggest relevant IS that can be used to support marketing
activities?
b) Explain functionality should be offered by that IS as
suggested in (a)?
In bioremediation, scientists often search for indigenous
microorganisms. Describe indigenous microorganisms and explain why
these microbes are so useful in cleaning up a contaminated
site.
