Compare and contrast a minimum of two I/O theories in training and development and determine which is most appropriate .
Spearman"s two-factor theory:
According to Spearman, intelligence consists of general ability called the 'g' factor and special abilities called the 's' factor. The 'g' factor is general mental energy present in all mental activities, but 's' factor is present in particular for specific activities. In different specific activities different 's' factors are present. The 's' factor accounts for the special capacity of a person in some specific direction. A person may be brilliant in music, painting or engineering, but average in all other subjects. These specific or special abilities are above one's general ability. Although the 'g' factor is present in all mental activity , its influences is not always equal. A person's performance in some specific direction may be high or low according to the amount of 'g' he has.
Binet-Simon intelligence test:
For the measurement of Intelligence Binet-Simon scale is supposed to be the most appropriate and applied scale in the field of Intelligence. It is also based on mental age. in the test there are a number of questions related to the age and it is expected that the child should know the answer of the questions. There are some levels and if the child answers more than the general expectation then it is considered that the child bears excellent intelligence. The child's mental age is determined by giving him credit for the number of years below the level on which he passes all tests.
Binet-Simon intelligence test is very familiar and scientific intelligence test and most of the psychologists use this and they have modified the set of questions according to their need. It is very easy and the mental age can easily be measured. It also reflects the the merits of the test and the level of Intelligence and understanding can be easily reflected and it is also found whether the development is normal or abnormal.
