ANSWER.1 In case of concrete design mix, aggregate with low water absorption (not more than 2-3%) should be used in order to achieve proper strength and characteristics in concrete.

This is because high water absorption in aggregate results in absorbing water in a large quantity sometimes even after the mixing or placing of the concrete which results in further scarcity of water for the other process in concrete such as cement hydration.

Also, high water absorption means large number of pores in the aggregate, which causes the decrease in strength of aggregate making it it non-durable and not good for concrete.

ANSWER.2 For asphalt mix also, aggregate with low water absorption is preferred because, aggregate with higher water absorption property will absorb the Asphalt Binder & due to this asphalt Binder will further be not available for coating and binding purpose indirectly more Asphalt Binder will be required if we are using High water absorption aggregate. So it is desirable to use aggregate with lower water absorption property ( not more than 4-5%).

Here is the answer of the question with a specific reason.
