The following countries’ movie releases in 2010 were, the US with 378, the UK with 386, Germany with 287, France with 182 and Japan with 129. Choosing one new release at random, find the probability that the new release is: (a) European (b) From the US
The following countries’ movie releases in 2010 were the US with 378, the UK with 386, Germany with 287, France with 182 and Japan with 129.
Let A,B,C,D,E denote the event that the movie released is from the US,the UK,Germany,France,Japan respectively
n(A)=378
n(B)=386
n(C)=287
n(D)=182
n(E)=129
Let S denote the number of movies released,
Total movies released = n(S) = 1362
Choosing one new release at random, find the probability that the new release is: (a) European
The European countries are the UK,Germany,France
Let E denote the event that the movie released is European
n(E) = 386+287+182 = 855
Probability that the new release is European = P(E) = Favorable events/Total events = 855/1362 =0.6278
Choosing one new release at random, find the probability that the new release is (b) From the US
Probability that the new release is from the US = Favorable events/Total events =0.2775
